– MOSUL MUSEUM VANDALISED BY ISIS

A video published by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (I.S.I.S), on Thursday 02/26/2015, showed statues and artefacts dating back to thousands of years being smashed into pieces, drawing ire from the international community.

Three “ISIS criminals” accused of destroying and looting priceless artifacts from a museum in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul days ago have been identified, the city’s governor said Sunday 03/01/2015. Governor Atheel al-Nujaifi said the perpetrators were found to be citizens of Mosul and would be subject to prosecution.

Extremists used sledgehammers and drills to destroy the Iraqi artifacts, saying they were symbols of idolatry.

In 03/2001 the Taliban ordered the destruction of the historical and monumental Buddha Statues in Bamyan, South-Eastern Afghanistan, which shocked the world of the pre The 9/11.

Already in 11/2012, an Egyptian jihad leader, with self-professed links to the Taliban, Murgan Salem al-Gohary, twice-sentenced under former President Hosni Mubarak for advocating violence, called for the “destruction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids in Egypt” drawing ties between the Egyptian relics and Bamyan Buddha statues and called on Muslims to remove such “idols.”
