ISIS SUPPORTER AARON DRIVER KILLED BY CANADIAN POLICE
* Aaron Driver (pic-L), 24, also known as Harun Abdurahman, who was arrested in 06/2015 for openly supporting so-called Islamic State on social media, Driver eventually agreed, in 01/2016, to the peace bond but did not face criminal charges. He was shot dead in an anti-terror operation in the Canadian province of Ontario, media reports said on Wednesday 08/10/2016.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) only said that “action has been taken” against a lone suspect. Canadian media said police had raided a property in Strathroy, about 225km (140 miles) south-west of Toronto.
The RCMP statement said it had received “credible information of a potential terrorist threat”.
“A suspect was identified and the proper course of action has been taken to ensure that there is no danger to the public’s safety,” it added. “As this is still an unfolding matter and the investigation is still under way, we are not able to provide further comment at this time.”
CBC News said Aaron Driver’s family had confirmed his death. It said that police had told the family that Driver had detonated an explosive device, injuring himself and another person.
Aaron Driver was intending to detonate a second device and that was why police shot him, the report said.
Aaron Driver pledged allegiance to ISIS and, according to FBI tip, was about to commit his own bombs attack, already had made a “martyrdom video” and was planning the attack within 72 hours in an urban centre during morning or afternoon rush hour.
Aaron Driver was born to a Christian family in Saskatchewan. Throughout his life, he also lived in New Brunswick, Ontario and Alberta before moving to Manitoba in 2012. His mother died when he was 7 and he never kept close relations with his father. He converted to Islam as a grown up teenager looking for meaning in life and went through radicalisation in 2014 with the sudan emerging of the Islamic State as a Muslim Caliphate .
