– ABU HAFS AL-URDUNI

* Abu Hafs Al-Urduni, whosereal name is Farid Yusuf Amirat, was born in Jordan in 1973. He became an associate and lieutenant of Abu Musab al Zarqawi in Northern Iraq already before the USA invasion to the country in 03/2003.

In 02/2003 Abu Hafs Al-Urduni was cited by then-U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell as a leading member of Abu Musab al Zarqawi’s “terrorist network” in Iraq.

Abu Hafs Al-Urduni arrived to the Caucasus in 2004, probably from Iraq. He was sent by Abu Musab al Zarqawi to replace Abu al-Walid as the commander of the Islamic International Brigade (also known as the International Peacekeeping Brigade – IIPB)

Abu Hafs Al-Urduni was described by Russia as the financier of the Beslan Horror and a personal acquaintance of Osama Bin Laden. What is certain is that the Jordanian was involved in fundraising for the Chechen movement while playing an important role in organizing and leading military operations.

Abu Hafs Al-Urduni was heavily involved in training new Mujahideen as well as commanding the Eastern Front of resistance operations in the Caucasus (Dagestan).

On 11/12/2006 Abu Hafs addressed the poisonous legacy of the Abu-Ghraib prison scandal: “The Abu Ghraib prison serves as the greatest proof of the fallacy of the American agenda. How shall we trust America after all this?” he said to a Turkish website in a a very rare interview.

Abu Hafs Al-Urduni was killed, on Sunday 11/26/2006, by Russian Special Forces, in Khasavyurt in the west of Dagestan along with 4 other local militants,   a Russian intelligence agent said. He was replaced by Muhannad–Abu Anas.

Chechnya’s Prime Minister and leader of its most powerful pro-Kremlin militia group, Ramzan Kadyrov, said Abu Hafs‘s death would help bring stability to the region (see – DESERVE TO DIE).
