– ABDUL RAHMAN AL-NIGERI

* Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri, who is also known as Abu-Dujana, was born in Niger probably in the early 60s’. According to the Nouakchott News Agency, Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri “is from one of the Arab tribes in Niger” . He fought with Arab volunteers in Afghanistan in the 80s’ and befriended with some of them, especially with Mukhtar Bilmukhtar.

Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri joined, after the civil war in Algeria ended by the late 90s,’ to the Algerian remnants of the war who found refuge in the Sahara desert. Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri joined the Algerian Salafist Group for Call and Combat in Azawad (Northern Mali) during the first half of 2005.” The Salafist Group for Call and Combat, or GSPC, officially joined al Qaeda in 2007 and adopted the name MAGHREB al-Qaeda , or AQIM.

Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri became, essentially, the leader of Bilmukhtar’s special operations team. In 06/2005, Abdul Rahman al-Niger led the GSPC team that assaulted a Mauritanian military barracks in Lamghiti in northern Mauritania (see – Lemgheiti-Raid). Seventeen Mauritanian soldiers were killed in the attack.

On 01/16/2013 Abdul Rahman Al-Nigeri led the In-Amenas Raid in Algeria.
